Trilobites & Iron Wave at House Park
The Trilobites shade structure and the Iron Wave skate ramp are public sculptures commissioned by City of Austin Cultural Arts Division. Both were completed in 2011 and add extra elements of recreation and iconography at the downtown skate park. Both sculptures were inspired by the fossil laden Shoal Creek flowing next to the park. The Trilobites are made with structural, rolled steel plus locally sourced/milled red cedar, and casts shade over the “chill zone”located
Iron Wave is a free standing sculpture and also a rideable ramp at the City of Austin BMX Skatepark. Inspired by Shoal Creek that flows past the park, this all metal skate ramp mimics a wave of creek water rushing up to the edge of skate area. Each skater approaches this sculpture in their own style and creative interpretation.
